  Very poor, when we arrived we were told we would have to eat in the bar area as there were no tables available, when we went to get food there were clearly lots of available tables. My nan asked for gammon, it had run out so the chef disappeared for about 10 minutes to get more, the veg was either run out or looked about a week old, when dad went to get his dinner he was gone for about 20 and said there was a lot of kerfuffle with the server missing again. The meat, gravy and Yorkshires were good. Then we tried to order dessert, an ice cream and a liquor coffee, the poor boy behind the bar had no idea how to make the coffee, made it wrong and then couldn't find the ingredients to make it properly, finally asked for hot chocolate instead which was very underwhelming and after all this the ice cream still hadn't arrived, dad went to complain and we finally got it but it was missing a couple of the stated components. The manager didn't apologise, just made excuses, and didn't apologise when we went to get the difference between the coffee/hot chocolate back. Overall very disappointing, would not recommend.

  A basic roast if you're in a rush and aren't fussed about elegant surroundings. Staff are generally pleasant, although you can stand around for a while waiting for someone to acknowledge you as you're waiting to be seated. On our latest visit, the young barman was rude. He said something to my husband from quite a distance away and when my husband said 'Sorry, I didn't catch that', he replied, loudly, 'I'm not foreign!' Happily, this isn't our normal experience.

  Disappointing! Waited for 20+ minutes standing up waiting for the food with no one in the queue moving and the carver was nowhere to be found! Elderly customers went and sat back down because they had been standing for too long.
  When he finally arrived the carver wasn't wearing a beard net over his beard.
  The veg was not fresh, it was dry and most of the dishes were half empty despite the manager making excuses for the carvers absence "he was restocking the vegetables".
  There was no gravy in any of the dishes and the staff member I asked to bring more was very rude before eventually bringing some out.
  
  The only good thing about our visit was the waitresses. They were pleasant and friendly and understanding of the issues. The same can unfortunately not be said for the manager.
  
  Hope they improve service drastically, this used to be a lovely carvery and pub!

  Spoilt by one or two staff. This is a cheap, good value, roast and in that context it is difficult to complain too much. However, we went as a family group on Sunday 23rd April and my father, who is 82, somehow managed to miss the table as he put his plate onto it and dropped it on the floor. He was mortified but the waitresses were excellent and really looked after him. One of the waitresses asked one of the chefs who was carving the meat for another plate for my dad and he (the chef) made a real fuss, looking over and shaking his head. All very unnecessary and humiliating for my father. Some staff training, or sacking, required I think. And very much undid the excellent work of the waitresses. All of those carving looked extremely bored.
